4 Creative Lettering IDEAS To Try in November 2021

Get your creativity flowing again this month with these 4 creative lettering ideas I hand picked for you. There’s one for every week.

What are you waiting for, go give them a try!

#1 Stippling

Everything looks better with stippling. You can either fill the gaps with stippling or the entire piece. But one thing you need to know from me, I always hate myself for starting (usually no going back) but I’ve never regretted doing it. You need to push yourself over the hump until you see how it’s turning out. Worth it!

PRO TIP:
To create beautiful gradients, I’ll often draw a line of dots, spacing them out as I go, to visually see the spacing, which helps when filling out the entire piece.

#2 Interwoven Lettering

Save space and write words on top of each other! Not quite. It’s not so much about saving space than it is about the beauty that comes from the intricacy of interwoven lettering.

Intertwining letters with each other, while keeping them legible adds to the complexity of lettering and that my friend, is fun to play around with.

PRO TIP:
Sketch it out first to see which parts of the letter can be covered, move or scale the words to get it right.

#3 Lettering on random objects

If paper is getting too boring for you, why not switch it up this month. There are thousands of different object you could choose from. Your imagination is your limit really. I do it all the time! Like I was bored one afternoon and drew on our trash bin in the office. Just go grab something and customise it. The question I get asked the most, what pen do I use, to which I reply, the best one I can find. Most pens state what you can use them on… I just try.

PRO TIP:
Try out your pens on the backside to see how well they color on the surface.

#4 Negativ Lettering

Did your teacher ever tell you not to colour outside the lines?

Well I’m challenging you to do just the opposite: Don’t colour inside of it.

Filling out the negative space is way more challenging as it often takes twice if not 3x the time.

But the result speaks for itself.

PRO TIP:
Draw the outlines first with something you can erase later.
